Update for Windows VistaI've been using Vista now for awhile and the tool below does not support Vista. I've been using which is working out great. I've added it to my so I can access it by right-clicking any folder. CheerioThis is one of the greatest little tools I've found lately! It replaces the 'Size' column in Windows Explorer, which normally doesn't show anything for folders, with a 'Folder Size' column that displays the cumulative size of the folder. This is incredibly useful for clearing HDD space. This is definitely one of those apps you wish Windows included as a feature. Magic set editor mac. I would love nothing more than to see this work in Vista.OK, scratch that. My preference would be to have this feature built natively into Vista. Change Windows 10 File Explorer text size. Step 2: Under the Make text bigger section, move the slider towards to the right-side of the screen edge to increase the text size. The “Sample text” box located just above the slider displays the live preview of the new text size. If you are happy with the new text size, click the Apply button. As you know, Microsoft has never supported to show folder size in Windows Explorer directly, from Windows 1.0 to Windows 7, 8, even version 10. But for some reasons, you may need this feature in. This is a bug with newly created directories in File Explorer on Windows 10 v1803 updates. The system always reports the size as around 3% the correct size. For example, I get only 649 MB folder size for that, but the actual files and folder it contained is 9 GB. Hi, i am using windows 10 and i want to show folder size too in explorer. TreeSize Free is a free disk space manager for Windows. The software shows you the sizes of folders including all subfolders. Menu of a folder or drive and shows you the size of this folder, including its subfolders in an Explorer-like fashion. One of the peculiarities of Windows Explorer, seeing that it is a file management application, is that it does not have the ability to display folder sizes. 'Windows Explorer, by default, doesn t show the size of the folder when you opt for the Details view. This is one of the little things that users will find lacking in Windows Explorer.' But, being as that is not the case, I would LOVE for this to be supported in Vista. The developer posts:'Hey, I am the developer of Folder Size. It brings a tear to my eye to see such lamentation about Folder Size not supporting Vista. Vista removes the API that I used to add the column. F.cking Vista. I don’t see why they couldn’t have implemented some translation layer from the old interface to their new system.' 'This does beg the question: WHY has this not been a feature built into windows for years by now?' (asked seven years ago.)The reason is (1) lazy excuses and (2) arrogance. Windows Explorer Folder Size Not AccurateJust take a look at the MSDN forums and other microsoft forums. When various EXPERIENCED people ask why they are told 'go read my post again' or 'it would be too resource intensive.' Any programmer with ANY experience knows that a cache or background process can be created for large folder trees. AND the 'feature' (really more like a basic function) COULD BE AN OPTION.A detailed view with BLANK folder sizes, for over 15 years now. Microsoft can't seem to implement THE BASICS first. I know that I have only about 500mb in files and 36 folders but it shows that i have 10.4gb in 9000+ files and 600+ folders. There is not a trace of any virus or malware and i have done chkdsk /f /r three times and is still shows the wrong number of files and folders. This is very puzzling.I wonder if it is a faulty FAT? I also delete%temp% temporary files manually everyday before shutting down and periodically clean the system so there is no reason for a drastic increase in HD usage. The problematic partition is not the system partition so I am sure that it is not the windows pagefile that is causing this problem. ![]() Also, it could be that Windows is using file junctions where one file is referenced from other place inside a folder and that file is physically not present in that folder but will add up when properties of the folder is viewed. For instance, if I have a folder which contains one 5 MB file and another 5 MB file referenced from another folder, in this case though the folder is actually taking up only 5 MB physically, but properties dialog box will show 10 MB. If this is the case, you need not to worry about space. Also do a malware scan.Another thing I wanted to add, see, this is silly to ask, but did you right click the folder properly? What I mean is, when you try right clicking a folder in Windows 7, there is some possibility that the folder was not selected at all and you get the right click menu for the folder containing that folder. To ensure, left click on the folder first to select it, then right click on it. This is an irritating design bug in windows. Irritates me a lot. Right clicking over the name or icon of the folder selects it (you see blue selection box over the folder) but right clicking in an empty area (on the folder itself) doesn't select it, thus creating the problem. I've done all that and off course I right clicked it properly. Even if windows is using file junctioning as you have said, how can 500 mb jump to 10.4 gb? I've done malware and anti-virus sweeps repeatedly and nothing comes up. Windows 7 Windows Explorer Folder SizeI can access the partition without any problems. I have even done a DISKPART rescan to manually refresh but the damned thing just won't show the correct folder and file size.Another thing I notice is that, after I open the properties box, size seems to stop at the correct size for it then suddenly it increases steadily until it stops at 10.4 gb. This includes the file size and the number of folders and files contained. I've also used Vipre, Bitdefender, and Norton to scan for viruses and malware and results are always clean. Windows 10 Folder Size ToolSimilar help and support threadsThreadForumHi, I have MS Outlook 2010 which I've connected to a couple of online email accounts.
